eMachines EL1200 K-DEMar certified

A dia de hoy son muchas las opciones para hacerse con un ordenador de dimensiones reducidas a precio reducido, entre tantas encontramos el eMachines EL1200 de Acer, que promete tener muchos adeptos estas navidades, veamos las características reales de este producto, en su versión comercializada en España, ya que en su página web , hay ligeras diferencias: (De hecho ni visitando la web americana que da más detalles coincide en algunos aspectos)

– AMD Athlon 64 bits LE-1600 a 2.2 GHz, 1MB de caché. Energy Efficient, 45W de consumo

– 1GB RAM DDR2

– Nvidia Geforce 6150SE integrada en placa hasta 256MB de memoria compartida
(el chipset de la placa es el MCP61 de nVidia)

– Disco duro 160GB SATA2 (7200rpm, 8MB cache)

– Grabadora 18x DVD±R/RW Double layer con «labelflash»

– Lector de tarjetas de memoria Multi X en 1

– Audio 6 canales (5.1) (2 conectores frontales, auriculares y micro)

– 3 USB frontales, 4 traseros

– 1 conector RJ-45 Ethernet

– 1 conector PCI Express

– Teclado y ratón

– Sistema operativo Ubuntu preinstalado

La caja incluye únicamente, la minitorre , el teclado, sencillo pero muy cómodo y elegante, con las únicas teclas multimedia de subir y bajar volumen y mute, y la de suspender el ordenador, lo cual a mi parecer es suficiente, pues las otras teclas no se suelen usar nunca y están de más. El ratón, aunque funciona muy bien, a dia de hoy viene a ser un tanto obsoleto, ya que es de los clásicos de «bola» (os tocará quitar roña en los ratos libres).

Contamos también con el cable de alimentación, un libro de garantía en bastantes idiomas, una breve guía de instalación para principiantes, y una hojita en inglés que te cuenta que el software que has adquirido con el ordenador es GPL , funcional , pero sin ninguna garantía y te invita a visitar la web de GNU para obtener una copia con los términos de la licencia GPL.

Evidentemente, esto es así porque hemos adquirido la versión que viene con Ubuntu (es curioso que solo en la web española aparezca esta opción disponible). En los centros comerciales donde se vende actualmente este ordenador te ofrecen la posibilidad de adquirirlo con Windows (según la web, tanto versión XP como Vista, pero no quiero ni imaginármelo, a pesar de lo que recomiende el fabricante), y a pesar de adquirirlo con Ubuntu, te ofrecen un antivirus (¿?) y una extensión de garantía que iguala o supera el precio del ordenador (199€)

El contenido del ordenador es más que correcto, y además de lo comentado, incluye un DVD de recuperación de Ubuntu y dos DVD’s virgenes «labelflash», lo que parece ser una especie de «lightscribe». Esto es una deducción propia, y al igual que otros datos que reflejamos aquí, son fruto de un análisis hecho por nosotros mismos del hardware que contiene este equipo.
Con esto llegamos al punto negativo, ya que a pesar de que la presentación del equipo es más que suficiente, deberían haber tenido en cuenta el detalle de incluir en alguna parte, una hoja/folleto o al menos una etiqueta en el embalaje con las características, pues lo mismo nos podían estar colando un spectrum montado en una mini-minitorre y se quedarian tan panchos.

Es necesario aclarar y criticar este punto ya que podéis encontraros en la situación de consultar tanto en la web del fabricante, como en alguna otra página, información errónea y no contrastada, con otras características diferentes al producto que se está vendiendo en nuestro país. Además de las anteriores citadas, tenemos otras consideraciones, por ejemplo, no tengais esperanzas porque la torre muestre dos slots traseros vacíos, pues en la placa solo hay un conector PCI Express, o que la gráfica tenga 384 MB compartidos como se puede leer en alguna web, pues el máximo es 256M y como hemos comentado, tampoco incluye los altavoces (o al menos a nosotros nos los han «tangado»). Por suerte, en uno de esos deslices vistos en alguna web, hay que decir que salimos ganando con la cpu, ya que no va a 1.6GHz, como hemos visto en algún lugar, sinó a 2.2Ghz.

Por lo tanto con la tecnología «labelflash», nos vemos en la misma situación que con el resto de características del equipo, habrá que aventurarse a «quemar» uno de esos DVD’s y rezar porque labelflash sea igual a lightscribe pero con otro nombre, pues no disponemos ninguna información por parte del fabricante, ni manuales, ni software especifico de ningún tipo referente al tema .Quizás los que adquieran el ordenador con windows si tengan ese software o información sobre este «labelflash», en nuestro caso, es algo que no pensamos averiguar y nos quedaremos con los ganas hasta que hagamos la prueba con el software de grabación lightscribe que incorpora nuestro sistema.

Hay que reconocer que el panel de emachines para ubuntu, está bastante bien, aunque las traducciones son un poco confusas, porque suena raro llamarle «Grabador» al OpenOffice Writer

Pero como en casa del herrero no puede haber cuchillo de palo, no nos conformamos con Ubuntu, este ordenador ha de estar «certificado» también para K-DEMar, así que procedemos a instalarlo y para comprobar la robustez y la potencia de este mini ordenador, lo instalamos con el compiz activado (lo que se dice vulgarmente, para putearlo un rato, pruebas de rendimiento que dirian otros)

He aquí una sorpresa, otra de las novedades de la próxima K-DEMar, ejecución «live-usb», esta instantánea ha sido tomada mientras instalábamos la ultima beta 4.7 , en el disco duro:

Debido a la calidad de las imagenes, apenas se aprecia el logo de «ubuntu certified».

Con la K-DEMar recien instalada y comprobando que todo funciona perfectamente, ahora podemos afirmar que este eMachines , es un ordenador «K-DEMar Certified».

Por último, comentar que si os decidís por la compra de este ordenador esta navidad, aparte de averiguar si van incluidos los altavoces o no xD, seria muy útil también un adaptador wifi usb, ya que la única posibilidad de conexión a internet, tal cual viene de serie, es una conexión a través de LAN.

En nuestro caso, al no haber contado con este detalle desde el principio, nos hicimos deprisa y corriendo con el primero que vimos, un belkin que no funciona bajo linux (ni en ubuntu ni en k-demar) sinó es por medio del uso de ndiswrapper.
